Interns

 

Hannah Haehn is the recipient of the 2011 Kendra Chiota Payne Global Studies Award.


Hannah worked for three months with the Clinton Foundation in New York and followed by six months with the Yayasan Bumi Sehat Midwifery Clinic in Bali, Indonesia.


Hannah worked within the birth rooms, on call daily as a non-medical labor support person who understands the complex emotional interactions that take place between mother and child, her partner, the midwives and her community during birth.

2011 Sports internship

Kristina Egbert was the 2011 recipient of the Leadership For Young Women Through Sports Internship.


For her internship, Kristina coached young girls at the Isla Vista Elementary School

2011 Global Studies award

The Kendra Chiota Payne Memorial Fund has granted internships and awards to UCSB students since 2007. The recipients have proven to be remarkable for their compassion and commitment.

Global Studies Award Recipients

Since 2008, recipients of the Kendra Payne Global Studies Award have experienced internships in Taiwan, Rwanda, Cambodia. Chad and Indonesia.

2011

Hannah Haehn spent the first three months of her internship working with the Clinton Global Initiative in New York and then went to Bali, Indonesia to work in a midwifery clinic.

2010

Kathrine Kemp worked with refugees in Chad under the auspices of the Chad Foundation.

2009

Yenly Thach worked for the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva and conducted research on experiences of refugee returnees in Cambodia.


2008

Joseph Farsakh worked in Rwanda and Chad.

Caroline Le worked with female migrant workers and human trafficking victims in Taiwan.

Sports Internship Recipients

The Kendra Chiota Payne Leadership for Young Women through Sports Internship began in 2007. Each year a student from UCSB has been working with young, under-served girls at local elementary schools, first at Harding Elementary School and currently at Isla Vista Elementary School.
